IB Psychology is an intensive study of Research Methods, 3 levels of analysis and two options. These include the Biological, Cognitive and Sociocultural levels of analysis. IB Psychology options (focus areas) include Abnormal Psychology, Human Relationships, Health Psychology, Sports Psychology and Developmental Psychology. There is a focus on writing since the May exams are solely based on essays. Information continues to spiral through the curriculum during junior and senior year.
During the fall of the second year of this course, students will complete the required Internal Assessment. In IB Psychology, this is a replication of a published study. Students can not conduct conformity studies, studies that involve young children or any studies that compromise ethical guidelines. This is completed in school, during school hours. The final paper is written in school and partially at home using a calendar of deadlines to be sure students are on track. The Internal Assessment is graded by me, but moderated by the IBO.
In May, IB Psych students will take an externally assessed exam. This means that a panel of examiners from around the world will score the May exams. The exam is broken down as follows:
Day 1
One Hour - 3 required Short Answer Questions (reflecting the 3 levels of analysis)
One Hour - One longer style, higher level thinking essay. Students choose from 3 questions for this essay.
Day 2
2 Hours - Two longer style, higher level thinking essays from our options.
